oakes baby announcement featured on oh so beautiful paper

We wanted to create a special birth announcement to welcome Bonnie's baby boy, Preston Oakes Cross, into the world. Our concept took its inspiration from her family farm where she grew up, married, and where Oakes will be baptized this summer.
babyO_1 babyO_2 babyO_3 The property is bounded by a beautiful river which brought to mind the natural world of trees, foliage, deer, canoes, and herons. The announcement is letter-pressed and duplexed with another card printed with all these images. Currier hand painted in watercolor a soft graphic pattern for the envelope liner. The photo was printed on metallic paper to add a crisp note to the overall color palette. And of course Oakes provided his adorable baby face. babyO_4 babyO_6 Don't you just want to kiss those cheeks!

They're 10 for $20 and include these beautiful watercolor pattern envelope liners.

A Southern tradition, the Sip 'n' See is a chance to coo over the new baby & hug the new momma. These invitations are sold blank so you can fill in the details yourself. Each envelope is lined with the coordinating watercolor pattern. sip-see-pink

These were inspired from pieces of a birth announcement we just wrapped up. We did a mini photoshoot in the barn & will share more details really soon!

over the moon baby announcements

Check out this dreamy little baby. Don't you just want to squeeze him?! Nicole fell in love with the "over the moon" concept so we created a hand drawn illustration and typography to fit the theme. An announcement is all about the baby picture, but it's fun to incorporate a unique design in the mix as well. The cards were letterpressed a deep grey and design kept minimal to let this bambino shine. IMG_6548
The photo was tucked in a glassine envelope and printed on this gorgeous metallic photo paper. These pictures don't begin to do it justice, but in person the effect is unreal. The Johnny Cash stamps Nicole choose to mimic baby John's similar cow lick are the perfect final touch. Welcome to the world John Henry!

baby shower invitations // spring showers

Spring showers are bringing on the bambinos. There must be something in the water, because we know so many expecting mommas. Perfect timing to design a new baby shower invitation. Check out these lovelies. My favorite part is the photo liner. Such a fun way to personalize an invite. They're in the shop if you have a buddy with a baby on the way.

two are two

2 friends contacted us 2 to design their 2 daughter's 2nd birthdays. Whew, whole lotta 2s going on there. We obliged and created an invitation around the play-train that awaits all the toddlers at the party. Hopefully the little ladies will happily climb aboard!

tenn hens etsy site

Blogging 3 days in a row… say what? I know, I know, we have a lot to chatter on about around here. The heat has set in, but Tenn Hens is kicking into high gear this summer and we're hoping you'll follow along.

We launched this creative venture of ours back in 2005 with a little dream. That little dream was to create a line of our own Tenn Hens products. Some folks from our past life in the advertising world kind of looked down on that. I guess it wasn't as "serious" as designing campaigns for national brands and I think we kind of believed them for a while. But what we discovered over the years, besides doing what makes YOU happy, is that there's more than ONE way to run a design business. So… we worked, we grew and we decided we loved designing marketing pieces for businesses, but we also loved designing invitations and stationary.

That all lead us to today. We went back to that little dream of ours from the very beginning and hatched the Tenn Hens Etsy site. It will be evolving and growing and we sure hope you'll check it out and spread the word. Thanks friends!

bun in the oven

The big news around our office these days is there's a bun in the oven. That's right. Miss Bonnie's having a baby! To celebrate the upcoming event, we put our heads together to design a fun shower invitation. We love any excuse to celebrate! The type and design was all illustrated by hand in a whimsical, funky style. After all, this was no ordinary shower. No overly sweet pink or blue here. It needed to be kind of cool and most of all… really fun. Plus Bonnie's not finding out the gender so we had to keep it all sort of neutral. The corners were rounded, the invites were mounted on blue hued paper stocks, and each one was tied up fittingly with bakers twine. All that was the left were the envelopes. We used old stamps we'd collected mixed with new abstract art ones that were just released. And we mixed in some envelope liners to really make this package feel special. Now we just wait on the bun in the oven. It will be the newest member of the Tenn Hens family nest!

Oh and we got a little pub from a fabulous blog… check it out! Oh So Beautiful Paper

a special delivery

Pink is for girls and blue is for boys. Or so they say anyway. For this baby shower though the idea was a bit more modern. The concept was to incorporate the mother's move from Music City to the Big Apple in a whimsical design. So we created our own vision of a stork, in a cowboy hat of course, flying over the Brooklyn Bridge with a very special delivery. After all, who wouldn't want a country music singing bird to deliver their baby?
